Tom Lilburn is an English countertenor who recently covered Ottone and Narciso in Handel’s Agrippina for English Touring Opera. In July he graduated from the Master of Performance course at the Royal College of Music, where he was an Ian Evans Lombe Scholar. He is also a Lay Clerk at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, and in April 2021 he was one of four singers at the funeral of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

He studies with Sally Burgess and has been coached by Bryan Evans and Nancy Cooley. During his first year at The Royal College Tom sang the role of Unulfo in Handel’s Rodelinda and in summer 2022 he sang Refugee in Jonathan Dove’s Flight.

Tom is an experienced oratorio soloist and recent performance have included Bach’s St. John Passion, Cantatas 48, 89 and 154, Mass in B Minor and Magnificat, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Beatus Vir, Handel’s Messiah and O Praise the Lord with one Consent, Carissimi’s Jepthe and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. He has also worked with a variety of consort groups including Tenebrae, The Sixteen and ORA, and is a member of Windsor-based consort The Queen’s Six.

Tom studied Natural Sciences at St. John’s College, Cambridge, where he was a choral scholar, and he graduated with a 2:1 in 2016. Born in Solihull, he sang in the choir of St. Alphege Parish Church from the age of seven and was a finalist in the 2007 BBC Radio 2 Young Choristers of the Year.
