Covering in ETO’s Handelfest
For the last couple of weeks I have been covering the roles of Ottone and Narciso in Handel’s Agrippina for English Touring Opera. Covering is a new experience for me, but one which I’m getting used to bit by bit! The main challenge is ensuring that the moves and singing are ‘in the body’ without actually getting to repeat it time after time in rehearsal, as one normally would when rehearsing a role.
Agrippina is one of my favourite Handel operas, with some genuinely funny moments blended into a gripping story with some beautiful arias. Ottone is a role I’ve always wanted to perform so it’s a lovely way to step into working with ETO.
