Handel’s Belshazzar in Saarlouis

Last Saturday I joined Kantorei Saarlouis and Ensemble UnaVolta to sing the role of Daniel in their performance of Handel’s Belshazzar. It was a wonderful experience; the chorus sang with spirit and both singers and audience were very welcoming.

It was my first time singing this piece and I hope to do so again. The aria ‘O Sacred Oracles of Truth’ is simple yet spellbindingly beautiful, and one I will certainly perform in future recitals. The work is full of exciting choruses and the heartbreaking duet before the final chorus leaves a tear in the eye.

After the concert we rounded off the evening a late buffet supper and wine. Meeting so many audience and chorus members gave the concert a very personal feel.
