St John Passion with Oxford Bach Soloists

Over the Easter weekend it is a good time to reflect on last week’s performance of Bach’s St. John Passion at Edington Priory Church with Oxford Bach Soloists. It was a great pleasure to sing under Tom Hammond-Davies to a packed church, and such a beautiful one at that.

The St. John Passion is one of my very favourite works, full of drama and beauty, and it is always wonderful to sing it at Easter time. I sang the aria ‘Es ist vollbracht’ as a step-out solo, a poignant aria as Jesus gives up the ghost yet with an uplifting coloratura section proclaiming that Jesus has conquered death and ended the struggle. It is always a joy to sing it.
