Royal Albert Hall

Last Sunday I had the great privilege of singing the alto solos from Handel’s Messiah in the Royal Albert Hall. Singing such famous solos at an iconic concert hall was an experience that will stay with me for a long time. My fellow soloists Hilary Cronin, James Micklethwaite and Johannes Moore all did wonderful jobs.

Brian Kay conducted The Really Big Chorus for the chorus movements. The Really Big Chorus is a scratch choir, who sang without rehearsal, and there were 2,500 chorus members sat around the hall. The effect of such a large chorus singing was spellbinding. I sat in the centre of the hall as the different lines rang down from different sections of the hall, and it brought the piece to life in a way I have never heard before.

A truly unforgettable evening. I look forward to singing the piece again in December in Worcester Cathedral and in Ampleforth.
